چکیده
The relationship between leptin, adiponectin, ghrelin, homocysteine, insulin resistance and other biochemical factors in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is controversial. We review how the expanded role of these factors in reproduction might impact our understanding of PCOS. For purposes of our review, we accessed the PUBMED database during the past 10 years. Our review confirms that these factors can have etiopathogenetic importance in some enigmatic reproductive disturbances such as PCOS. Moreover understanding the role of these biochemical factors might be useful for new treatments in

Evaluation of metabolic risk markers in polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Adiponectin, ghrelin, leptin and body composition in hirsute PCOS patients and controls.
OBJECTIVE Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) patients are abdominally obese and are at increased risk of developing the metabolic syndrome. Low adiponectin and ghrelin levels in PCOS patients could be caused by insulin resistance as well as high testosterone levels. DESIGN Adiponectin and ghrelin levels were evaluated in 51 hirsute PCOS patients referred to the outpatient clinic of an academic,...
متن کاملRelationship between Serum Leptin, Ghrelin and Dietary Macronutrients in Women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome
Background Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the most common endocrinopathy in women. It may involve an impairment in physiologic regulation of leptin and ghrelin. There is limited, controversial data on the relation of dietary components with leptin and ghrelin in PCOS, so the current study has been conducted to explore the effects of different macronutrients on serum levels of leptin and gh...
